What We Do
The Records Project provides free legal representation to King County residents seeking to remove eligible convictions from their criminal record. When a conviction is vacated under Washington law, it is removed from most publicly accessible background check services, and you have the legal right to tell employers, landlords, and others that you were not convicted of that offense.
Vacating can remove barriers to housing and employment that fall disproportionately on people with conviction histories.
Who We Serve
We serve King County residents at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, at no cost. To be added to our waitlist you must also have at least one eligible conviction in King County. Our clients include Black, Indigenous, and people of color who are disproportionately impacted by the criminal legal system, people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, immigrants, and anyone who faces barriers to accessing the legal system.
