NEIGHBORHOOD LEGAL CLINICS

Week of 6/8/2026: KCBA-scheduled Family Law Clinics, which advise on issues like divorce and child custody, are CLOSED for applications while we attempt to contact everyone who already applied. If you have a family law legal issue, please check back next Monday, 6/15, to see if we've reopened. In the meantime, one of our partner clinics or other resources may be available to assist (see more information below, in the Family Law and Partner Clinics subsections).

All other Neighborhood Legal Clinics, including General Practice, Debt/Bankruptcy, Loren Miller, and Federal Civil Rights, are OPEN and accepting appointment requests, with most clinics operating via telephone. For a full description of our services and clinics, please continue reading below.

To apply for an appointment with a KCBA Neighborhood Legal Clinic, follow the link below to fill out a Client Intake Form.

NOTE: Our partner clinics, which are run by other community organizations, may have different application instructions and wait times (see below, under Partner Clinics)

Important Notes:

  • If you are unable to use the Client Intake Form, you may call 206-267-7070 to request an appointment by voicemail.

  • Submitting a Client Intake Form or leaving a message does not guarantee an appointment. After we receive your application, an NLC scheduler will call you to complete an intake screening and – if you are eligible – schedule you for an appointment with a volunteer lawyer.

  • Wait times vary based on the type of legal issue, application volume, and other factors

Current approximate wait times (updated 6/9/2026):

  • 2-4 weeks for General Practice Clinics and Debt/Bankruptcy Clinics

  • 3-5 weeks for Loren Miller Clinics and Family Law Clinics*

*for Family Law applicants who applied before the waitlist closure
  • 6-8 weeks for the Federal Civil Rights Clinic

The purpose of the Neighborhood Legal Clinics program (NLC) is to offer free, limited legal advice and referrals to King County residents and individuals with legal issues in King County who might otherwise have no access to the legal system. It is a goal of the program to make the clinics accessible regardless of barriers such as income, education, language or disability.

WHO WE SERVE

King County residents or people with legal issues in King County

WHAT WE DO

Neighborhood Legal Clinics (NLC) provide a FREE consultation with a volunteer attorney, usually on the phone. Appointments are typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes long depending on the clinic and if an interpreter or other accommodation is needed. Attorneys determine whether each client has a legal problem, suggest possible options, and provide appropriate referrals. NLC attorneys may not have expertise in all areas of the law, but they will make every effort to provide information and resources for your legal issue.

NLC Volunteer Attorneys WILL:

  • Provide legal advice for civil legal issues
  • Help answer papers, summons and requests
  • Provide referral and resource information
Special Requests
  • Accommodations for persons with disabilities provided when requested
  • Interpreter services available when requested for all clinics
Referrals
  • Clients who need further legal assistance may be referred to other legal or law-related agencies in the community, and/or other KCBA programs, such as the Records Project,  Family Law Programs, Housing Justice Project, or Lawyer Referral Service.
  • NLC is a limited legal service and should not be considered a substitute for representation.

NLC Volunteer Attorneys DO NOT:

  • Provide representation in court or assistance outside of a clinic. Clients can schedule multiple appointments if progress is being made on the legal issue, but each appointment may be with a different volunteer attorney.
  • Give advice on criminal legal issues. The King County Department of Public Defense may be able to assist. Visit, King County Department of Public Defense or call 206.296.7662.

HOW TO REACH SERVICES

To make an appointment, please click HERE to fill out a Client Intake Form. After you submit a client intake form, an NLC scheduler will call you to complete the intake screening, and – if you are eligible – they will schedule you for an appointment. Please note that the wait time for a callback after you submit your application may be several weeks - see more info on wait times in the yellow box at the top of this web page.

Clients who cannot use the online Client Intake Form may call 206-267-7070 and leave an appointment request via voicemail.
