I’ve been a member of the King County Bar Association for many years. I joined KCBA on January 21, 2009, just after being sworn in by Chief Judge Marywave Van Deren of the Washington State Court of Appeals Division Two, the judge for whom I was acting as judicial clerk at the time. My absolute favorite thing about KCBA membership was the Bar Bulletin. I loved (still love) the newspaper layout, the recurring columns, the local news, and updates.

KCBA created its referral service in 1961 as a benefit to the community. LRS generates considerable income in support of KCBA’s mission, including its pro bono legal services. On April 20, the King County Bar Association hosted the third in-person Swearing-In Ceremony since the start of the pandemic in 2020. In attendance were 44 attorneys who recently passed the WSBA winter bar exam and friends and families. In total, 125 people gathered in the King County Superior Courthouse to celebrate these new admittees with Presiding Judge Patrick Oishi.

After the required time period for accepting nominations concluded, the King County Bar Association New Lawyers Division (NLD) has nominated a slate of candidates for the upcoming vacancies on the NLD Board. The NLD Bylaws prescribe that the Nominations Committee shall nominate at least one candidate for each member vacancy to be filled.

Beginning July 1, 2023, KCBA’s membership dues will increase. KCBA’s last dues increase occurred more than seven years ago. Inflation and the high cost of living in Seattle make this increase is necessary. We want to ensure KCBA can pay living wages to our staff members who bring so much to our community and to members like you.
