Work, personal obligations, and long laundry lists can make it difficult to check off personal or professional bucket list items. Yet, personal growth and a healthier work-life balance arrive with the process of thoughtfully asking what is important to us. Spending the time to complete one professional bucket list item might have lasting benefits that spill over into personal life as well. I’ve been a member of the King County Bar Association for many years. I joined KCBA on January 21, 2009, just after being sworn in by Chief Judge Marywave Van Deren of the Washington State Court of Appeals Division Two, the judge for whom I was acting as judicial clerk at the time. My absolute favorite thing about KCBA membership was the Bar Bulletin. I loved (still love) the newspaper layout, the recurring columns, the local news, and updates.

KCBA created its referral service in 1961 as a benefit to the community. LRS generates considerable income in support of KCBA’s mission, including its pro bono legal services. Therefore, LRS is a “win-win-win” in that it benefits KCBA, potential clients, and the attorneys who participate on the panels.

Dear Chief Justice Roberts:

We are retired Washington State Superior Court Judges writing to express our grave concerns regarding recent developments at the United States Supreme Court. Prompt, transparent and effective resolution of these issues is not only imperative to the continued credibility and vitality of the Supreme Court itself, but to all levels of the judiciary.

Beginning July 1, 2023, KCBA’s membership dues will increase. KCBA’s last dues increase occurred more than seven years ago. Inflation and the high cost of living in Seattle make this increase is necessary. We want to ensure KCBA can pay living wages to our staff members who bring so much to our community and to members like you.
