The intersection between involuntary civil commitment and guardianships: what rights do individuals with serious behavioral health issues have when the government, friends, and/or family seek to compel mental health and/or substance abuse treatment without their consent?  This presentation will provide participants with an overview of: 1).  The involuntary civil commitment process/procedures; 2). The rights of individuals with serious behavioral health issues v. guardians/friends/family; and 3). The Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA) process and incompetent litigants charged with criminal offenses.
