Presentation: "Overview of the Uniform Guardianship Act - Minors, Local Rules, and the KCBA Kinship Care Solutions Project" by Paul McVicker, Managing Staff Attorney at KCBA & Caroline Davis, Attorney and Mediator (Ret.)

The managing attorney and a seasoned litigator and volunteer for the KCBA Kinship Care Solutions Project will Review the Uniform Guardianship Act as it pertains to minors, local rules, and the work of the Project representing caregivers in King County petitions for minor guardianship.

The presenters will cover an overview of the Act, including notable provisions and intersection with other relevant laws. The requirements for delegation of parental powers, minor guardianships, emergency and standby guardianships and for modification or termination will be summarized. The summary will include local procedures. The nuts and bolts of handling a case from start to finish will be outlined and discussed. Responsibility for pro-bono work under the RPCs will be reviewed. The work of the Kinship Care Solutions project in providing services to clients and in training and mentoring volunteers will be discussed and the benefits of volunteering will be presented.
