Summary

This CLE will overview key parts of the Washington appellate process that every civil litigator should know even if they intend to never represent a client in the appellate courts. How to preserve the trial court’s potential errors for your client to appeal later; how to determine whether a decision is appealable or subject only to discretionary review; when and where to file a notice of appeal; how appellate advocacy differs from litigation in superior court—this CLE will address these topics and more. Ethical considerations, such as conflicts of interest and the duties of competency and diligence, will also be addressed.
