Are we as lawyers more inclined to be givers, takers, or matchers (reciprocators)?

My father was an engineer. My mother was trained as a scientist and always had a mind for numbers. My parents always taught me to be analytical in trying to solve a problem and be efficient when you have multiple problem sets.

For those of us who set goals (or resolutions) at the beginning of the year, here’s a great reminder to revisit those goals and determine if we’re on track or not. After all, we’re at the halfway mark on the calendar. Personally, I plan on reviewing my book list to see if I can play catch up over the summer.

The King County Bar Association has completed its quadrennial review of the bench by attorneys appearing before the Superior Court. This survey completes the cycle begun with the 2022 Survey of attorneys appearing before King County Courts of Limited Jurisdiction.

KCBA’s housing justice work has grown exponentially over the years. What began in 1998 as a volunteer service now supports a staff of 43 dedicated to promoting housing stability and availability while aiding individuals in avoiding eviction. 

As May arrives, it brings not only the flowers promised by April’s showers, but also hints of our upcoming summer. This month also brings us Law Day on May 1st, a time to educate youth and adults across the country.

Since 1958, May 1st has been observed as Law Day in the United States. An annual observation of the legal profession where we honor the rule of law and its import in our free society.1 The 2024 theme is Voices of Democracy.
