Find out what you need to know from the experts -- a panel of lawyers in their first decade of practice.
These new lawyers will discuss -- and answer your questions on -- everything from critical skills for new attorneys, to mistakes they made (and how they handled them), to the best advice they received, to work-life balance ... and more. Come with your questions and expect great answers!
After the panel discussion, the new-lawyer experts will answer questions. Stay after the CLE for in-person networking with the panelists and others.
Panelist Bios:
Meng Yu Che earned a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2020, and an LL.M. in Taxation from University of Washington School of Law in 2022. Before law school, he spent more than 20 years in the IT industry. He is now a lawyer with Reed Longyear in Seattle, focusing on representing clients in estate planning, probate administration, and elder law. Outside of his practice, Meng Yu Che has prioritized mentoring new attorneys.
Caleah Whitten is a litigation associate at Davis Wright Tremaine, Caleah Whitten focuses her practice on consumer class action defense and arbitrations. She also has experience in complex commercial litigation and internal corporate investigations. Previously, Caleah served as judicial law clerk for Judge Gregory A. Phillips of the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit and for Judge James O. Browning of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. Caleah is a graduate of Emory University School of Law.
Sarah F. Alderin is an associate in the business practice group at Carney Badley Spellman and the Section Chair of the KCBA Business Section. Her practice focuses on assisting clients with corporate governance, entity formation, and a variety of corporate transactions, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Carney, Sarah was an associate at a law firm in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she advised lower middle-market private companies with respect to general corporate governance and entity formation, equity investments, and debt financings, assisted private equity clients with acquiring and selling portfolio companies, and represented issuers and underwriters in connection with public offerings of municipal securities.
Austin J. Neff works in civil litigation, focusing on catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death, medical malpractice, products liability, sexual abuse, and motor vehicle accidents at Osborn Machler, PLLC. Previously, he worked at the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted violent offenders. Austin has experience both in the courtroom and with alternative dispute resolution. A graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, he graduated as a member of the National Order of the Barristers. In 2024, the KCBA awarded Austin its APEX award for legal excellence, and he is currently the co-chair of the Washington State Bar Association’s Trial Advocacy Program.
