The following are highlights from the KCBA Board of Trustees meetings held on July 19, convened by KCBA President Karen Orehoski.

President Orehoski called the meeting to order and welcomed the new and returning trustees. Pro Bono Director Judy Lin and Member Services Director Bridget Schuster provided an overview of their work and the upcoming goals of their respective departments.

Anti-Racism Committee Co-Chair Mary Sakaguchi provided an overview of her committee’s work and the development of the Anti-Racism Statement. She informed the need to incorporate the statement in the strategic plan and to track the actions being implemented to determine progress.

Crux Consulting Team Tara Smith and Harmony Wright presented timeline and process to create a strategic plan. The Board engaged in exercises evaluating their views on the statements, and how KCBA’s goals for Membership, Awareness, Pro Bono, People and Culture and Operations would be impacted.

The Public Policy Committee briefed the Board on the committee’s history and processes they use when developing a position. Chair Rory O’Sullivan proposed a new policy procedure to provide guidance to KCBA staff and members about testimony before legislative bodies when testifying on behalf of KCBA. The Board approved the Legislative Agenda Process Proposal by voice vote.

The Board handled a few business matters. It voted unanimously to add Executive Director Christina Coad as a signatory on the bank accounts for KCBA and KCBI. The Board also passed unanimously to appoint Paul Crisalli as Secretary for FY2024. The Trustees then reviewed and filled out conflict of interest and disclosure forms. The Board then discussed committee activities and Trustees were asked to be liaisons to the various committees to ensure the Board was aware of their activities and issues that would need to be addressed by the Board.

Before adjourning and meeting for a social hour offsite, President Orehoski thanked the Board for their time and commitment to KCBA, and she is looking forward to working together this year.
