Spring 2026 Swearing-In Ceremony

On May 6, the King County Bar Association hosted a swearing-in ceremony with 42 new attorneys and three limited practice officers participating. The King County Superior Court room was full of friends and family celebrating the new admittees’ achievement alongside Presiding Judge Averil Rothrock.
Keynote speaker Justice Colleen Melody recalled taking her first deposition in a pro bono family law case, and said working in pro bono gives new attorneys the opportunity to represent the “little guy” and to gain valuable experience.
“KCBA offers programs for 75% of people who we already know don’t get their civil legal needs met,” Justice Melody said. “When you hear that opportunity, whatever it sounds like to you, and it will be different to each of you, you will raise your hand and you will say yes, and you will make a difference in a way that will make us proud.”
KCBA Vice President Mary Sakaguchi and New Lawyers Division Chair Ray Williams each provided memories of being sworn in, and the virtues of KCBA membership, encouraging the new admittees to take advantage of the programs and networking opportunities KCBA provides.
For over two decades, KCBA has hosted swearing-in ceremonies for new admittees twice a year, in the spring and fall. We are proud to be part of a major milestone for every new admittee who has attended these ceremonies over the years.
