Connect, Serve, and Network with NLD

By Heather Maloney

Did you know? At our standing monthly meeting the KCBA New Lawyers Division (NLD) board was pleased to have received multiple applications for trustee positions for the 2026-2027 board term. The board was excited about the caliber of applicants, and is pleased to announce the 2026-2027 Board slate here. As we look to next year, it is exciting to have new voices, new ideas, and new enthusiasm joining the NLD board team. However, did you know any NLD member can join one of the four standing board committees that provide services to the membership? Are you a social media whiz? Consider joining the NLD communications team. Do you like to entertain? The NLD social committee might be the right place for you. If you have a passion for volunteering and community, the Community Involvement Committee might be a good fit. And if you’d like to help bring great CLEs and other services to NLD members, consider joining the CLE/Services committee. All NLD members are welcome. If you are interested in joining an NLD committee, please reach out via the website. All inquiries are welcome!

Happenings: The NLD Community Involvement Committee hosted a business professional clothing drive from May 4–15 to benefit the Haitian Christian United Church. This initiative honored Haitian Flag Day on May 18. Donations of business professional attire (suits, blazers, dress shirts, etc.) for the church were plentiful, with great KCBA member participation! The New Lawyers Division (NLD) also attended the 2026 Spring Swearing-In Ceremony on Wednesday, May 6. This event featured Washington Supreme Court Justice Colleen M. Melody as the keynote speaker. It was inspirational to meet our newest bar colleagues after the swearing-in ceremony!

Coming Up: The NLD Board is proud to host our Summer Barbecue at Gas Works Park on June 4 from 5:00–9:00 pm. All NLD members are welcome to join the board and fellow NLD members for an evening of fun and relaxation! Watch for more information coming your way via LinkedIn and other social networks, and join us for a night of new friendships and networking! Hope to see you there!
