NLD in Action: Leadership Opportunities, CLE Programs and Events

By Heather Maloney

Did you know? The NLD board continues to accept applications for open board positions. Trustees serving on the NLD board serve two- to three-year terms on rotating cycles. The Board is currently accepting applications and nominations for Trustees for the 2026-2027 service term, which begins July 1, 2026. Self-nominations welcome! Serving as a Trustee is a great way to get involved in leadership and service with KCBA while networking and growing relationships with other attorneys in King County. Visit the KCBA NLD webpage at www.kcba.org/?pg=
New-Lawyers-Division for more information about joining the NLD as a board member, to access the applicant questionnaire and to upload your resume. Nominate yourself or someone else today!

Happenings: On February 19th, the NLD hosted a speed networking event. At the event, which was held virtually, mentors and mentees met briefly to network and discuss their legal career paths. The event was well attended and received. On February 24th, the NLD was proud to coordinate a CLE on “2026 Ethics Implications of Artificial-Intelligence Use By Attorneys: State Bar Guidance, Disciplinary Actions, And What Not To Do.” Given the increasing frequency of use of AI in our profession, the NLD Services Committee thought it timely. The CLE was hosted virtually and all interested KCBA members were invited to attend. Additionally, nominations closed for the 2026 KCBA NLD Outstanding New Lawyer award. The winner will be honored at the KCBA Annual Awards Reception in June.

Coming Up: Mark your calendars! The NLD annual Spring Soiree is coming up on April 9th, from 5:00pm-7:30pm at ArtLove Salon, 110 Union St. 5th Floor, Seattle. Please join us for this annual event held in recognition of this year’s Mentor of the Year Award recipient and nominees. The winner will be announced at the event! This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres, explore the silent auction, meet your peers, and network with members of the legal community. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will benefit KCBA’s Pro Bono Programs.
