Did you know? The Mission of the King County Bar Association New Lawyers Division is to further the objectives of new and aspiring lawyers by representing the diverse interests of the Division’s members to the Association and the legal community, creating opportunities for continuing legal education, mentoring, and networking, as well as addressing the needs of the community through pro bono and volunteer service.

Trustees serving on the NLD board serve terms of two to three years on rotating cycles. Presently, the Board is accepting applications and nominations for Trustees for the 2026-2027 service term, which begins July 1, 2026. Self-nominations welcome! Visit the KCBA NLD webpage for more information about joining NLD as a board member, for a link to the applicant questionnaire, and to upload your resume. Nominate yourself or someone else today!

Happenings: NLD was proud to join the King County Bar community at its Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon on Jan. 16. The speakers’ moving words resonated with NLD members and prompted reflection.

On Jan. 29, on Zoom, the board hosted “Polish Your Resume. Sharpen Your Skills. Build Your Network,” which provided opportunities for NLD members to receive feedback on their resumes and practice their interview skills. The workshop gave attendees an opportunity to discuss their current experience and future career goals, while networking!

In January, NLD continued to seek nominations for the Mentor of the Year. Nominations have closed as of this issue of the Bar Bulletin, and the winner will be announced at the Spring Soiree. Meanwhile, nominations for Outstanding New Lawyer are about to open. See the NLD webpage for a link to nominate an Outstanding New Lawyer who has shown exemplary contributions to their practice and the legal profession.

Coming up: In addition to accepting nominations for NLD Trustee positions and Outstanding New Lawyer, the board has several upcoming events in the planning phases. Several new CLEs for NLD members are in the works as well as continued planning for our annual Spring Soiree. Check out the NLD page on the KCBA website and the KCBA calendar for information on these exciting events.
