Did you know? The latest figures show that KCBA has 3,996 total members. Of these members, approximately 1,527 have been practicing less than 10 years and, as such, are members of the New Lawyers Division as part of their KCBA membership; 470 NLD members are law student members. These numbers make the NLD the largest division in KCBA!
This year, one primary objective of the NLD Board is to increase communications with our NLD membership. To better serve our NLD members, the NLD Board is happy to announce the inaugural edition of the NLD newsletter, Keeping Up With The NLD! This newsletter will provide timely information as to the NLD’s events and opportunities. The first edition will grace inboxes soon.
In addition, the NLD Communications Committee will be increasing opportunities for our members to learn about our events and to get involved on social channels including LinkedIn and Facebook. And, the CLE Committee is hard at work developing an upcoming CLE for all the NLD’s members, and the Community Involvement Committee has finalized our first community volunteering opportunity in November.
The board is busy working diligently and pleased with the great kickoff to the year. Stay tuned with the NLD newsletter and social media or on the KCBA website. And don’t be shy — be sure to follow up by connecting with us on LinkedIn. All KCBA members are welcome.
Happenings: When fall arrives, the academic year begins. To welcome back law students at the University of Washington, the NLD Board hosted a Back-to-School Happy Hour at Big Time Brewing in the University District. Students enjoyed appetizers and drinks while mingling and networking with one another and board members. The event was a great success with dozens of students enjoying themselves.
On Sept. 24, NLD Board members had the honor of attending KCBA’s swearing-in ceremony at King County Superior Court. NLD Board President Ray Williams addressed the new admittees and welcomed them to the bar. It was truly an honor for our board members to share this experience with these new attorneys.
Coming Up: The NLD has several events and opportunities to get involved on the horizon.
Make a difference while meeting other NLD members and making new friends. Consider lending a hand by joining the NLD on Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University District Food Bank.
Are you a golfer? Join the NLD on Nov. 20 at Flatstick Pub for appetizers, pizza, and drinks. Try your hand at a round of golf while you get to know other new lawyers in our area and learn more about being involved with the NLD.
