New Lawyers, New Membership Year, New Goals - BAR BULLETIN

Bar Bulletin

Did you know? The KCBA Young Lawyers Division (now known as the New Lawyers Division) was formed in 1949 to meet the needs of service members returning from World War II. Since its inception, the group has sought to aid new lawyers in their first 10 years of practice by providing opportunities for networking, community involvement, and continuing legal education.

This year’s board consists of 15 attorneys, laypersons, and law students. In addition to providing resources to new lawyers and membership benefits, the board engages in regular outreach to aspiring attorneys-to-be at the Seattle University and University of Washington law schools. Get to know your New Lawyers Division by reading this Bulletin column and following us on LinkedIn.

Happenings: The NLD board met to kick off the new term with our annual retreat in August. Returning and new board members took time to strategize and focus on NLD goals for our 2025-26 board term. In preparation, each board member agreed to serve on committees aimed at benefiting our membership. The four committees established are (1) Communication and Outreach, (2) Community Involvement, (3) Social Events, and (4) New Lawyer Services. Committee meetings are held virtually each month, and all KCBA New Lawyers Division members are welcome to join a committee at any time. Check our website for meeting times and links: http://kcba.org/?pg=New-Lawyers-Division.

Also, the New Lawyers Division started the membership year off strong with a back-to-school happy hour for Seattle University law students. Board members and students mixed and mingled while discussing the start of the academic year and the benefits of NLD membership. A great time was had by all!

Looking to network with other attorneys in their first 10 years of practice? Please join us for our NLD October Social at Rhein Haus Seattle!
