Updates: The KCBA New Lawyers Division board met virtually May 13 at our standing monthly meeting. At the meeting, the board reviewed nominations for new board members for the 2025-26 board term, which starts July 1, 2025. Elected to the board as new trustees include Emily Husa, Janelle Elysee, Julissa Rachor, and Roxanneh Mousavi. The board also voted in current trustee Matthew Audish as the new Vice Chair and Brittney Rivers as Treasurer/Secretary for the upcoming term.
Board members are looking ahead into next year and beginning to brainstorm for the term ahead. We are excited about the new ideas and new collaborations the new board members will bring to the dynamic and innovative NLD board. Interested in getting involved with the NLD board? Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at nld@kcba.org. New voices always welcome!
Happenings: This spring has been busy for NLD. Our Community Involvement Committee hosted a volunteering event with Food Lifeline on April 19. NLD members sorted apples — lots and lots of apples — while socializing, networking, and helping community members in need.
In the same week, the Continuing Legal Education Committee hosted CLE “Working Dogs in the Legal System.” We heard presentations from Celeste Walsen of the Courthouse Dogs Foundation, Page Ulrey (and her Courthouse Dog, Errol) from the King County Prosecutor’s Office, Lee Palmer and Gianna Lee from Assistance Dogs NW (with their two dogs), and Karen Sticklin from Canine Companions (plus her training puppy, Pita). The dogs were very good! Thanks to Corr Cronin for providing the space we needed to host this educational CLE for more than 25 attendees and numerous canine companions.
NLD was also in the house at Breakfast With Champions on May 6, hosting a table for NLD members. It was inspiring to hear keynote speaker Steve Pemberton and student speaker Ariel Archie’s calls for KCBA members to be a “lighthouse” — to look for the “ordinary” ways we can have a big impact on someone’s life. Truly inspirational!
Coming Up: Looking forward, NLD has several exciting events on the horizon! The NLD Year-End BBQ will be June 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Gas Works Park. All NLD members are invited to come mingle and network while enjoying terrific barbecue.
Toward the end of the month, on June 26, NLD will be present at the KCBA Annual Awards Dinner where Tommy Tobin, the recipient of the Outstanding New Lawyer Award, will be honored! Interested potential attendees can register on the KCBA website.
Soon after, NLD will host a virtual “Sports Law” CLE on June 30, free to all NLD members, and a Volunteer Park cleanup event in July (date to come).
There is no shortage of ways to get involved with NLD, meet new colleagues, give back to the community, and network with attorneys in their first 10 years of practice. We encourage all NLD members to come and experience the energy of our vibrant NLD!

The New Lawyers Division held an informative, and affectionate, CLE this spring: “Working Dogs in the Legal System.”
