Opportunities for New Lawyers - BAR BULLETIN

Bar Bulletin

Posted on: Feb 1, 2025

Did you know? The Mission of the King County Bar Association New Lawyers Division (NLD) is to further the objectives of new and aspiring lawyers by representing the diverse interests of the Division’s members to the Association and the legal community, creating opportunities for continuing legal education, mentoring, and networking, as well as addressing the needs of the community through pro bono and volunteer service. Trustees on the NLD board serve terms of two to three years on rotating cycles. Presently the Board is accepting applications and nominations for Trustees who would start their service in July 2025. Self-nominations are welcome! Visit the KCBA NLD webpage for more information, to find a link to the applicant questionnaire and to upload your resume or scan the handy QR code located here to nominate yourself or someone else today!

Happenings: The NLD hosted several events in January. On January 9th, the board hosted a “Board Game Night” at Mox Boarding House in Ballard, complete with snacks, drinks and, of course, board games! Fun was had by approximately 20 attendees who enjoyed the opportunity to relax together while networking! Also, the board hosted a “Transition to Practice” panel and luncheon on January 22nd at UW Law School. This popular and well attended annual event gave law students the opportunity to ask NLD members about the experience of being a new lawyer in practice. The NLD also continued to seek nominations for the Mentor of the Year and Outstanding New Lawyer awards. While nominations for Mentor of the Year have closed as of this edition of the Bar Bulletin, there is still time to nominate an Outstanding New Lawyer. See the NLD webpage for a link to nominate an Outstanding New Lawyer who has shown exemplary contributions to their practice and the legal profession or make that nomination using the QR code provided here.

Coming Up: In addition to accepting nominations for NLD Trustee positions and the Outstanding New Lawyer Award, the board has several upcoming events in the planning phases. Several new CLE’s for NLD members are in the works as well as a post February bar exam mixer/happy hour (hosted jointly with WSBA’s Young Lawyers Division) and continued planning for our annual Spring Soiree. Check out the NLD page on the KCBA website and the KCBA calendar for information on these exciting events!
