The annual KCBA Bench Bar Conference was held on November 8th at the SeattleState & Limited Jurisdiction Courts Update Panelists (from left to right): Hon. Faye Chess, Seattle Municipal Court Presiding Judge; Hon. Rebecca C. Robertson, King County District Court Chief Presiding Judge; Hon. Cecily Hazelrigg, Washington Court of Appeals, Division 1, Judge; Hon. Lori K. Smith, Washington Court of Appeals, Division 1, Chief Judge; Hon. Ketu Shah, King County Superior Court Presiding Judge, Moderator. Convention Center. The planning committee consisting of Presiding Judge Ketu Shah, Katie Comstock, Colin Mieling, and KCBA President Erin Overbey. KCBA staff members Bridget Schuster and Emily Miller put together a great program including updates from each level of Washington’s courts; two panels on the use of AI in the legal profession; a look at Indian Law from Washington Supreme Court Justice Raquel Montoya-Lewis; and a session on remote proceedings following the end of the Supreme Court Emergency Order.

The event was fully in-person and was well attended. We welcomed over 20 judges both as panelists and attendees. One new agenda item this year was a featured “Lunch with the Judges”. Registrants and judges alike were given lunch and had the opportunity to converse and build connections.
