Did you know? At the New Lawyers Division we believe great mentors deserve great recognition! Each year our board accepts nominations for the Mentor of the Year award which is awarded in person at our annual Spring Soiree. Do you have a mentor that has made a difference in your career? Guided you in your practice? Taken the time to serve as an advisor or a coach? Please consider recognizing him/her/them with a nomination for Mentor of the Year! Nominations can be made directly on the NLD page of the KCBA website or using the handy QR code provided here. Nominations are due on or before December 15, 2024.

Happenings: On October 19th approximately 15 NLD members participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraiser walk and generated over $1500 donations, exceeding our goal! Also, on October 25th the NLD hosted a panel entitled “Navigating Your First Years of Practice” which provided a great opportunity for attendees to ask questions and learn from experienced attorneys about tips, tricks and common pitfalls encountered by newer attorneys. This event was held in a hybrid format, so both in person and virtual attendance was an option. For in-person attendees, an opportunity to mix and mingle was provided with a happy hour directly following the panel. Feedback from attendees was positive and the volunteer panel members also reported a great experience!

Coming Up: All NLD members are encouraged to get involved with the NLD and opportunities are available all throughout the year! The NLD board has four committees that meet virtually once a month and joining an NLD committee is a great way to get involved. Would you like planning fun events for NLD members to network or just blow off steam? Then the Social Committee might be right for you. Would you enjoy expanding the NLD’s involvement in local charitable work? Then the Community Involvement Committee might be your chance to contribute. Are you interested in helping plan meaningful and relevant CLE’s or lunch and learn opportunities for NLD members? Then the New Lawyer Services Committee might be a fit for you. Or are you a great communicator looking to plug in to the social network of NLD members? You can spread the word about the great work of the NLD through the Communications and Outreach Committee. All committees are happy to welcome new NLD members! Learn more on the NLD page of the KCBA website. Consider joining a committee today!
