Fall Swearing-In Ceremonies: Reflecting on Justice and Responsibility

The King County Bar Association hosted another Swearing-In Ceremony for those who passed the July Summer Bar Exam. More than 150 new attorneys were sworn-in by King County Superior Court Presiding Judge Ketu Shah at two ceremonies on October 9.

The noon time keynote speaker, Anna Newsom, Providence Executive Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer, urged attendees to remember that every new attorney has made the decision “to look at the common good and help all of society, not just a few.”

Washington State Senator Manka Dhingra was the afternoon ceremony’s keynote speaker. She reminded the new lawyers that they now all “speak the language of power in this land, and with that power, comes great responsibility.” She encouraged them to give back to their communities through pro-bono work, and to continue seeking justice for all, in all that they do throughout their long careers ahead.

A total of 538 people passed their bar exams, a 73% pass rate.
