“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
– Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 1963

Huge appreciation to the many lawyers, judges, and community members who joined King County Bar at Seattle Convention Center on January 12, 2024 for this year’s MLK Luncheon. Every year we invite a Keynote Speaker who will encourage us to remember, and live by, Dr. King’s message that every individual is entitled to equality and justice under the law.

This year’s speaker, Dr. Eddie Glaude, the prominent scholar, author, political commentator, and educator, took up the challenge with aplomb, providing a moving and inspiring speech examining how hubris affects democracy and the ongoing work toward racial equality. He challenged us to “choose who and what we’ll be” in the future and emphasized the work that still needs to be done: “The laws that make segregation illegal may not attack the underlying evil.”

Heartfelt gratitude to our Master of Ceremonies, Daniel Hsieh, West Woodland Elementary School’s Wildcat Choir, KCBA President Karen Orehoski, Hon. Richard Jones, Rachel Marshall, Karen Murray, and Matthew P. Clark.

A very special thank you to all our sponsors for supporting us in honoring Dr. King.

KCBA would also like to share our gratitude to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon Committee for all their work in making the Luncheon such a successful community event.
