April 2013 Bar Bulletin

Candidate Slate Set for Board Elections

The 2013 King County Bar Association Nominations Committee has put forth a strong slate of candidates for vacancies on the Board of Trustees. The open Board positions are second vice president, treasurer, secretary-trustee, three Central District trustees, and one Eastside trustee.

Association bylaws prescribe that the Nominations Committee must nominate at least one candidate for each vacancy, and that it must nominate only the incumbent first vice president and second vice president to the next higher office. As a result, the Committee has nominated First Vice President Anne Daly to become KCBA president, and Second Vice President Steven Rovig to become first vice president.

The committee, in contrast to last year's election, recommended two candidates for the second vice president, treasurer and Eastside trustee positions. Five candidates have been recommended for Central District Trustee; members will pick three from this list. Finally, the committee chose to slate only one candidate, Robert Wayne, for secretary-trustee; this position has a heavier workload of additional meeting attendance than other trustee positions, so the committee decided that merited a single nominee.

Candidate statements for each of these individuals appear on pages 16 and 17.

The online election will begin April 19 and end May 3 for all contested positions. Members will be sent a voting link via their email address on file with KCBA. If you do not receive an email by April 22, please contact Heather Mullin by email (HeatherM@kcba.org) or phone (206-267-7055) for assistance.

Members may run against these candidates as provided in the bylaws by filing a petition signed by at least 15 KCBA members and submitted by 5 p.m. April 10. For more information about the petition process, contact KCBA Executive Director Andrew Prazuch by email (AndrewP@kcba.org) or phone (206-267-7061).

KCBA expresses its thanks to the 2013 Nominations Committee members for their efforts: Joseph Bringman, chair (Perkins Coie LLP), Beth Barrett Bloom (Frank Freed Subit & Thomas), Peter Ehrlichman (Dorsey & Whitney LLP), Bruce Hilyer (Judicial Dispute Resolution) and Dan Kilpatric (Davidson & Kilpatric PLLC).
