I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have spent more time explaining temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, U.S. District Court jurisdiction, standing, and the role of the Court of Appeals to non-lawyers in the last month than I have at any other time in my career. I appreciate the opportunity to answer their questions and, more broadly, the role we can all play as lawyers in helping others understand how the law and legal procedures work.

Partner Promotions

Tristan Swanson has become a partner at Ashbaugh Beal. His practice includes commercial and construction matters, real estate litigation and insurance recovery.

Joseph Wallin has been elected shareholder at Carney Badley Spellman P.S. Wallin works with emerging, high-growth and start-up companies.

Michael Caughey, Rebecca Francis, Matthew Moersfelder, Gillian Murphy, Andrew Steen and Maya Yamazaki have been promoted to partnership at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. Caughey has a financial services practice; Francis handles litigation matters; Moersfelder works in the intellectual property field; Murphy works on employment issues; Steen has a business and tax law practice; and Yamazaki focuses on media and intellectual property law.

Lindsay Coates, Alicia Feichtmeir, Lara Hemingway, Benjamin Hodges and Jeffrey Lane have been promoted to member status at Foster Pepper PLLC. Coates is in the firm’s Municipal Government and Public Finance practices and advises clients on municipal bonds, low-income housing tax credits, and general municipal law. Feichtmeir is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Employment & Labor practices and advises employers on compliance with employment laws and best practices in personnel management. Hemingway is a member of the firm’s Business Practice and counsels clients on employee benefits and executive compensation. Hodges is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property practices. He focuses on IP litigation and post-grant IP matters. Lane is a member of the firm’s Healthcare Practice and handles healthcare and medical research matters.

Susan Kim and Daniel Vecchio have become owners at Garvey Schubert Barer. Kim has a real estate and business practice. Vecchio is a litigator with a commercial litigation, bankruptcy and general debtor/creditor practice.

Lauren Parris Watts and Brandon Gribben have joined Helsell Fetterman as partners. Watts handles employment law issues and general commercial litigation with an emphasis on real estate disputes. Gribben advises real estate developers on zoning, land use, code enforcement and real estate law.

Ian Taylor has joined Pacifica Law Group as a partner in its Real Estate Practice Group. Taylor focuses on real estate leasing, development, purchase and sales, and regulatory compliance.

Miriam Farhi, Abha Khanna, Ryan Mrazik, Gretchen Paine, Kate Reddy, Margret Truax and Kris Yoshizawa have become partners at Perkins Coie’s Seattle office and Mark McBride has become a partner in the firm’s Bellevue office. Farhi works on issues relating to privacy, data security, social media, ecommerce and online advertising. Khanna’s experience includes intellectual property, antitrust, commercial contract disputes, constitutional issues and political law. Mrazik is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice, and a member of the firm’s Privacy & Security Practice as well as its Internet and Social Media industry groups. Paine’s practice focuses on product liability. Reddy’s experience includes litigation, regulatory compliance, risk management and product counseling matters. Truax focuses on federal and state laws affecting employer-sponsored employee welfare benefit plans. Yoshizawa helps financial institutions and borrowers with the negotiation, documentation and closing of financial transactions. McBride handles multigenerational trust and estate planning.

Elizabeth Hanley has joined Reed Longyear Malnati & Ahrens PLLC as a member. She previously had her own practice, the Hanley Law Firm PLLC. She has a general litigation, employment law, civil rights and personal injury practice.

Jennifer Parda-Aldrich has become a shareholder with Sebris Busto James. Her practice includes developing employment policies, representing employers in court and before administrative agencies, and conducting workplace investigations.

John Laney has become a partner in the Corporate Practice Group of Stoel Rives LLP. He works on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate, securities and financing transactions.

Associate Additions

Carry Porter has joined Reed Longyear Malnati & Ahrens PLLC as an associate in the firm’s family law practice. She previously had her own practice, Porter Law PLLC.

Lauren Anderson has joined Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson P.S. as an associate in the firm’s Lender Services team, where she handles financial transactions.

Alex Hurt has joined Livengood Alskog as an associate. He will work primarily in the firm’s tax, estate planning and probate practice areas.
