KCBA May Offer New Sports Law Section

By Brian Brunkow

The Northwest offers year-round sports and recreational activities, from youth sports and cheerleading to major city events, college athletics and the professional ranks, and there are a lot of legal issues to consider when it comes to sports in King County.

Most events and leagues require legal advice regarding liability (from on-field issues to the aggressive boxing mom wielding a stiletto at her son's opponent), insurance, licensing, privacy and publicity rights, intellectual property, employment, contracts, transactions, etc. So how about a new KCBA Sports Law Section dedicated to gathering and exchanging information on sports-related topics?

By starting a new KCBA Sports Law Section, we can develop programs and guest speakers to cover sports law issues in depth. This also should allow us as lawyers to create a focused, knowledgeable network to better assist the King County sports community.

The KCBA will be sending out a broadcast email to KCBA members to gauge interest. Please respond if you would like to start a new Sports Law Section as we need around 50 to 75 interested members for consideration by the KCBA.
