Mission Statement:

Membership on this committee is restricted to volunteers of any of the Pro Bono Services programs and KCBA members with an interest in legal aid. Committee members support, promote, and enhance the pro bono programs and Pro Bono Services' mission, through creative thinking and focused actions rooted in the values of access to justice. They represent Pro Bono Services in the community.

Information:

The PBS Committee is comprised of Pro Bono Services volunteers. The KCBA Pro Bono Services network consists of 6 programs that help the low-income people of King County with a variety of essential legal issues. Last year, KCBA's Pro Bono Services programs worked with 1,300 volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and students to provide over 10,000 clients with legal assistance. The estimated value of these services is $7.8 million. The PBS Department provides civil legal aid including direct representation, assistance for pro se litigants, brief services, and advice and counsel for low income people. PBS also provides mentoring and training for attorneys willing to take cases in specific areas.

The purpose of the PBS Committee is to support, promote, and enhance the pro bono programs and Pro Bono Services' mission, through creative thinking and focused actions rooted in the values of access to justice. The committee works collaboratively with PBS staff to further the goals and priorities of KCBA's Pro Bono Services.

Each year the PBS Committee identifies subcommittee needs and sets goals for the year. Below are the 2013-2014 subcommittees:

  • Program Enhancement & Support
  • Recruitment & Training
  • Pro Bono Policy
