SU Law To Launch Summer Practice Academy

By Katherine Hedland Hansen

Lawyers will gain valuable expertise and skills through intensive and interactive certificate programs to be offered through Seattle University School of Law's new Summer Practice Academy, launching in 2014.

"This innovative academy will provide great benefits to members of the legal community, and summer is the perfect time to do this," said Dean Annette E. Clark. "I encourage attorneys to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from our talented faculty and use our state-of-the-art facilities."

Initial programs will be developed around topics such as Trial Advocacy; Health Care (including the Affordable Care Act); Indian Law; Legal Writing; Law Firm Leadership; and Becoming a Global Attorney. New programs will continually be created to meet the needs of interested participants.

The Summer Practice Academy will provide in-depth programming giving participants a competitive edge in their practice areas. Courses will draw upon the significant expertise of the law school faculty, as well as prominent practitioners in the community.

Programs will generally be three to five days long, either on consecutive days or weekly over a couple of months. Some will have online components to meet the needs of busy attorneys.

The Summer Practice Academy builds upon the law school's strong Continuing Legal Education program, which offers programs on a variety of topics throughout the year. All summer courses will be eligible for CLE credits.

For more information on upcoming programs or to make a suggestion on a topic, contact Mark Sideman, director of Continuing Legal Education, at 206-398-4092.
