Annual Goldmark Luncheon To Honor Judge Ellington

The Legal Foundation of Washington will present the 2013 Charles A. Goldmark Distinguished Service Award to Judge Anne Lake Ellington at the 27th Annual Goldmark Award Luncheon. The luncheon will be held Friday, February 15 at the Seattle Westin Hotel from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Judge Ellington retired from the Court of Appeals, Division I on October 19, but the spirit and dedication of her 40-year law career spanning the Attorney General's Office; tribal court; as the first woman selected as King County Superior Court presiding judge; and to the appellate court will remain a tangible presence in the halls of justice.

We honor Judge Ellington particularly for her work on the Access To Justice Board's Systems Impediments Committee, which eventually resulted in the adoption of GR 33 that enables people with disabilities to enjoy greater access to the courts and simultaneously raises awareness on the part of employees of the courts and related agencies to the barriers faced by people with disabilities.

As Judge Ellington retires, the Legal Foundation of Washington Board of Trustees joins with the LAW Fund and Endowment for Equal Justice Board of Directors in recognizing her commitment to secure justice that is applied equally to the weak and powerful alike.

The Goldmark Award Luncheon is the only statewide opportunity for the Legal Foundation of Washington and LAW Fund to celebrate and honor those whose outstanding accomplishments have had a positive impact on the low-income people of our state.

The Legal Foundation of Washington created the Charles A. Goldmark Distinguished Service Award in 1987 to honor the prominent Seattle attorney and the Foundation's second president at the time of his death in January 1986. Chuck Goldmark was keenly interested in access to justice. By presenting this award annually at the Goldmark Luncheon to an individual or organization that has assisted in providing meaningful access to the justice system, we also honor Chuck's memory.

The Legal Foundation of Washington is dedicated to equal justice for low-income persons. The Foundation funds programs and supports policies and initiatives which enable the poor and the most vulnerable to overcome barriers in the civil justice system.
