Law Library Updates Subscriber Program Fees
The Board of Trustees of the Public Law Library of King County approved changes to the Library's subscriber program at its last meeting. The following changes will become effective this January:
- 2015 annual subscriber fees are now $75, up from $65.
- Annual subscriber fees will automatically increase 5 percent each year.
- New subscribers will receive their renewals based on the actual date they join, rather than a calendar year renewal.
- The prorated subscriber fee category covering new subscriptions for September to December will be discontinued.
The subscriber fees have remained unchanged since 2008. During the last six years, the Library has been hit by substantial price increases routinely exceeding 12 percent, which have far outpaced the cost of living index. Conversely, funds received from civil filings in King County Superior Court (our major source of income) have declined 17 percent in that same period.
Over the last few years, the Library has, wherever possible, limited its increase for its contractual obligations to 5 percent or less per annum. We have also undertaken a comprehensive review of our collections, cancelling subscriptions to little-used materials, changing the format of others and consolidating coverage.
As the renewal period for 2015 approaches, we may be calling your firm to see if a renewal date other than January may be more appropriate. If you wish to change your renewal date, we will discuss the process with you at that time.
