Public Services Attorney
On September 1, Barbara Swatt Engstrom began her tenure as the new executive director of the Public Law Library of King County. The Board of Trustees announced its decision to hire her as the new director at the end of July.
Swatt Engstrom has more than 15 years of experience in law librarianship, most recently as librarian and adjunct professor at the Seattle University School of Law. She holds a J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Washington Information School. She is also a member of the Washington State Bar Association, having been first admitted in 2004.
With the arrival of the new director, the library now has four full-time law librarians, a technical services specialist, and three reference services specialists. This staff serves two libraries — one in the King County Courthouse, on the sixth floor, W-621, and open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the other in the Maleng Regional Justice Center, at 401 4th Ave. N. in Kent, on the ground floor, and open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
