MAMAS Honors Judge Pechman

The Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association of Seattle (MAMAS) will present the Betty B. Fletcher Leadership and Justice Award to U.S. District Court Chief Judge Marsha Pechman at its annual luncheon on October 16.

The award was recently renamed in memory of the 2011 honoree, the late Judge Betty B. Fletcher, and recognizes individuals who have paved the way to success for and have served as inspirations to women attorneys striving to excel in their legal careers while balancing family demands.

Judge Pechman has served since 1999 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. She has served on the Ninth Circuit Jury Instruction Committee and currently sits on the Ninth Circuit Education Committee.

Judge Pechman previously served for 12 years as a King County Superior Court judge, serving on the Executive Committee and on other court committees focusing on ethics, education, jury, mental health and personnel issues. While serving on the bench, Judge Pechman raised two daughters, both of whom are now grown and pursuing their own dreams.

MAMAS is an organization dedicated to furthering the interests of attorney mothers in the legal profession. Founded in 2006, it has grown quickly in both numbers and prominence. With nearly 500 members in the greater Seattle area, MAMAS aims to empower mother attorneys and facilitate their success in the legal profession.

To this end, MAMAS hosts monthly lunch seminars designed to help members develop business and leadership skills and enhance their career progression, provide support and facilitate networking. Recent presentations included topics on "Networking With Ease," "Leadership Communication," and "Effectively Drafting Your Self-Evaluation." MAMAS also offers low-cost CLEs on topics such as estate planning, ethics and E-discovery.
