In Memoriam: Helen K. Pulsifer
KCBA is sad to announce that former KCBA Executive Director Helen K. Pulsifer passed away on July 1. Helen served as the then-Seattle-King County Bar Association’s second executive director, beginning in October 1980. She had served two years as assistant executive director, when she was named to succeed Helen M. Geisness. She retired in 1989.
As noted in her obituary in The Seattle Times:
“Helen Pulsifer had an unfailing moral compass. She was a dedicated civil servant and role model and mentor to her children and many others. Her lifelong commitment was focused on helping to effect change throughout her community for the betterment of all. Through the International Union of Students, League of Women Voters, Municipal League of King County, YWCA, Seattle-King County Bar Association, Washington Literacy, AARP and many other associations, she worked on issues facing us all. From civil rights to the anti-war movement to gay rights, from local government watch dog activities to senior guardianship concerns, she studied, learned, shared and acted to build community.”
