Kim Tran To Lead KCBA in 2015-16


Kim Tran, an attorney at Microsoft, has been elected to the position of King County Bar Association second vice president effective July 1. As provided in the Association's bylaws, she will become KCBA president on July 1, 2015.

Tran's previous KCBA experience includes a three-year term as a KCBA board trustee (2008-2011), two years as KCBA Membership Committee chair (2010-2011), and service on the bar's Diversity Committee (2011 to present). She is a past president of the Asian Bar Association of Washington and the Asian Counseling & Referral Service, and a board member for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Foundation. Tran also co-founded the Washington Statewide Diversity Conference, winning the WSBA's 2009 Diversity Award. In 2010, she was named one of Puget Sound Business Journal's "40 Under 40 Top Business Leaders."

At Microsoft, Tran's practice focuses on conducting and analyzing employee investigations, from discrimination claims to workplace misconduct. She earned her B.A. at Tufts University and her J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School.

Prior to Microsoft, she worked in private practice for more than 12 years at the law firm formerly known as Stafford Frey Cooper where she chaired the employment law group and served as hiring shareholder. Tran occasionally serves as a judge pro tem and previously worked at Seattle City Light.

Other newly elected Board of Trustees members are: Treasurer Jennifer Payseno (McKinley Irvin, PLLC); Secretary-Trustee Robert Wayne (attorney at law); Central District trustees Judge Sharon Armstrong (ret.) (JAMS), Nicole Gaines (Office of Administrative Hearings) and Armand "Jay" Kornfeld (Bush Strout & Kornfeld LLP); and Eastside District Trustee Marc Silverman (attorney at law). They also will begin their terms on July 1.
