On-Demand CLEs Now Available from KCBA

By Jason M. Hanson

The KCBA strives to deliver high-quality continuing legal education (CLE) programs that highlight topical issues, in-depth examinations of a particular area of law and the nuts-and-bolts of a particular practice area, presented by some of the best practitioners in our region.

This year the KCBA has provided CLE programs ranging from how to deal with privacy pitfalls using social media to handling a dissolution case from start to finish. While the traditional delivery method for CLEs continues to be in an in-person classroom setting, the KCBA is proud to now offer a portion of its CLE archive on an on-demand delivery basis via both audio and video downloads of past CLE programs - anytime, anywhere - through its website. Beyond the great learning experience, the best part of this benefit is that the featured programs qualify for audio/video (AV) credits for CLE credit reporting purposes.

For licensing purposes, attorneys must report a minimum of 45 total CLE credit hours every three years, with a minimum of 22.5 credits being obtained from live sources (i.e., not pre-recorded materials). That means half of an attorney's CLE credits during any reporting period can be obtained from AV sources. AV credits are self-reported through the state bar's MCLE system in the same manner as live credits, so reporting AV credits is simple and straightforward.

A KCBA member can access on-demand CLE materials for $25 for a one-hour program (cost for non-members is $40. The programs are available in three delivery formats: audio file (MP3 format), video file (MP4 format) or both. Currently, the KCBA is offering eight on-demand CLE programs in the areas of business law, construction claims, criminal defense, tax law, trust accounting, social media concerns, lease negotiations and civil procedure. New titles in a wide array of practice areas will be added in the coming weeks and months, so the amount of content available will continue to increase over time.

The KCBA is committed to bringing as much quality content in an on-demand format as possible. On-demand CLE delivery presents the perfect opportunity to access the great KCBA CLE content we have all come to appreciate, without the confines of time, space or physical location.

We encourage you to check out these new CLE offerings at the KCBA's website: http://www.kcba.org/cle/videofaq.aspx. We think you will find this delivery system of KCBA CLE content to be a nice complement to the traditional live, in-person classroom delivery method.
