I am writing this while making art for a group gallery show that is going to happen the weekend of April 18 whether I am ready or not. In between art shows, I tend to forget how much effort is involved in putting them together because it is so different from my legal work. For example, I need to polish a couple hundred pieces of glass, frame 20 to 30 encaustic works and collages, shoot photos of the new pieces, write wall descriptions, buy party food, and take care of all the other little things that make a show a success. It's a nice break from law, but it's also a lot of work.

Speaking of law, we had more announcements than I expected this month, so it's time I got back to writing the rest of this column.

New Partners, Directors and Shareholders

John De Lanoy has joined Pacifica Law Group LLP as a partner. He has extensive experience in real estate structuring, development and operations. He is part of the firm's Real Estate Practice Group. He was previously a partner with Cairncross & Hempelmann.

Stephanie Grassia and Sam Jacobs have been promoted to partnership at Helsell Fetterman. Grassia leads the firm's Insurance Coverage Group, where she handles disputes between policyholders and their insurers. Jacobs represents developers on land use, real estate, municipal and other matters. Prior to joining the firm, he was a sole practitioner and then a partner with the firms Louks, Lamb & Jacobs and Mosler, Schermer & Jacobs.

Todd Henry, Barbara West and Kinnon Williams have been elected shareholders at Inslee Best Doezie & Ryder. Henry practices construction law and litigation. Williams last appeared in this column when he became of counsel to the firm last summer. West focuses her practice on estate planning and elder law.

Rachel Tausend has become a partner in the Seattle office of K&L Gates LLP in the firm's e-Discovery Analysis and Technology (e-DAT) practice. Tausend advises businesses and individuals on e-discovery issues arising from regulatory examinations, investigations, enforcement actions and litigation. She was formerly with the Washington, D.C. office of Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP.

Pam Kohli Jacobson and Marissa Alkhazov have been elected shareholders and Mark Mills has been elected a director of Betts, Patterson & Mines, P.S. Jacobson is a registered patent attorney and heads the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group. Alkhazov's practice concentrates on the defense of product, environmental, asbestos/toxic torts, general liability and extra-contractual claims. Mills advises insurers on coverage questions and represents them in related litigation under commercial general liability and related coverages.

Associate Additions

Ryan Meyer has joined Dorsey & Whitney LLP as an attorney in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group, focusing on patent and trademark infringement litigation in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, telecommunications, software, mechanical devices and electronic devices.
