2013 Will Be a BOLD Year!
BOLD is the KCBA section designed especially for seasoned lawyers - those who have been in practice 30 years or more. If you're a KCBA member who fits that definition, you are automatically a BOLD-er, and there are no section dues.
We've had a lot of fun at programs over the last couple of years, typically combining a wine-and-cheese social with a program of substantive interest (and often free CLE credits).
With the new year, BOLD has more to look forward to. Last fall, we solicited BOLD-ers who were interested in mentoring more junior colleagues. In coordination with the Young Lawyers Division, we have established the first mentor/mentee pairings. They met each other at a kick-off event at the end of January and began what we anticipate will be at least a year of informal get-togethers (over coffee or lunch) that should add a dimension to the professional lives of both lawyers in each pairing.
Two programs (with wine-and-cheese socials) for all BOLD-ers are also in the works. One will focus on international teaching opportunities for lawyers and highlight the actual experiences of some of our colleagues. The second will provide an insider's analysis and predictions about the same-sex marriage cases pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. Exact dates and locations are still pending, so watch your email box for a flash message from KCBA providing the details as event dates approach.
And, finally, we know that there are some runners (and joggers and fast walkers) among the BOLD contingent. How about assembling a BOLD team to participate in the YLD 5k Fun Run/Walk, scheduled for March 9 at Seward Park? We've proven our endurance as lawyers. Let's show what we can do on the foot path!
You'll be receiving email messages from KCBA about all of these events. If you have questions in the meantime or want to be sure your interest is known, please contact Christine Dreps, member services manager at KCBA (firstname.lastname@example.org or 206-267-7003).
