Dan Abrams To Keynote Breakfast

By Michael S. Schechter

The King County Bar Foundation's annual fundraising event, Breakfast With Champions, will feature ABC News Legal Analyst, Dan Abrams on March 19 at the Westin Seattle, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Abrams is a television personality, Web entrepreneur, best-selling author, and graduate of Columbia University Law School. He is currently the legal analyst for ABC News, a substitute anchor for "Good Morning America," and the host of Discovery's "Chasing Justice with Dan Abrams." Prior to 2010, Abrams was at NBC for 15 years as a reporter for "NBC Nightly News," host of numerous shows on MSNBC, and chief legal correspondent for NBC News. From 2006 to late 2007, he served as the top executive at MSNBC.

Abrams' book, Man Down: Proof Beyond a Reasonable Doubt That Women Are Better Cops, Drivers, Gamblers, Spies, World Leaders, Beer Tasters, Hedge Fund Managers, and Just About Everything Else, became a bestseller in 2011.

The Breakfast With Champions recognizes the work of individuals dedicated to justice and diversity. Funds raised at the Breakfast support pro bono legal services delivered to individuals in King County who are the neediest and least served: the homeless, immigrants, frail, abused and disenfranchised. The Breakfast also recognizes that every member of our society, regardless of race or ethnicity, must have a stake in our legal system.

Breakfast contributions also support KCBF's Minority Law Student Scholarship program. KCBF is one of the largest providers of minority scholarships to law students in the state and is dedicated to expanding opportunities in the law for people of color.

Last year, the Breakfast raised nearly $300,000 and those funds helped KCBF assist 10,608 low-income people with more than $7.4 million worth of volunteer legal services. KCBF also distributed $125,000 in minority law student scholarships to the University of Washington and Seattle University law schools.

Despite our successes, the unmet need for legal services and the need to enhance diversity in the legal profession remain substantial, especially in the current financial climate. KCBF will ask the 1,000 guests who are expected to attend to make financial contributions in support of pro bono legal services and diversity.
