In keeping with our "Ice Dreams" theme, I bought myself a North Face vest and a North Face fuzzy jacket in ever-fashionable black to wear in the office this winter. I realized it could be worse - I could work in a drive-through latte stand - but it seems to me that a modern "green" office ought to be warm enough so as to preclude the need for extra clothes, fingerless gloves and a lap robe.

On that cheery note, let's welcome in the New Year with some lawyer news.

Partner Pronouncements

K&L Gates LLP recently added Michael Freno as a partner in its Seattle office. Freno focuses on intellectual property litigation and was previously with Seed Intellectual Property Law Group PLLC. He has represented major, generic pharmaceutical companies and clients in other industries.

Pacifica Law Group has voted to promote three associates to partnership effective January 1. The new partners are Kymberly Evanson, Brie Jensen and Greg Wong. Evanson represents public, private and not-for-profit clients in trial and appellate litigation matters with a focus on constitutional, municipal, elections and administrative law. Jensen's practice covers the full range of commercial real estate and business transactions with a focus on leasing, development, acquisition and disposition of commercial properties. Wong serves as legal counsel to a diverse group of public, private and not-for-profit clients, including handling complex issues as a litigator and appellate attorney.

Rachel Reynolds has been elected to the partnership of Sedgwick LLP. She has a product liability defense, toxic torts and environmental law practice.

Bill Harmon and John Mulgrew have joined the Seattle office of Shook, Hardy & Bacon as partners. Harmon served as an assistant general counsel at Microsoft within the Patent Litigation Group. Mulgrew most recently served as an assistant general counsel and team lead for patent conflicts at Microsoft.

Associate Additions

D. Jack Guthrie has joined McKay Chadwell, PLLC as an associate. Guthrie is a 2013 Seattle University School of Law graduate who represents individuals investigated for or charged with a wide range of criminal offenses.

Abigail DeWeese and Michael Edwards have joined Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson as associates in the firm's Real Estate & Land Use Group and Business Group, respectively. DeWeese's practice focuses on environmental, real estate and land use law. Edwards assists clients in transactional matters related to business, estate planning and real estate.
