Mission Statement:

Pro Bono Services:

The King County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Services promotes social justice by establishing and managing volunteer-based, client-focused legal services programs, and provides services on an equal and non-discriminatory basis to low-income residents of King County who would not otherwise receive legal assistance.

Pro Bono Services Committee:

The KCBA Pro Bono Services Committee works collaboratively with Pro Bono Services staff to further the goals and mission of Pro Bono Services by providing support, feedback, and perspective to KCBA’s Pro Bono Services through creative thinking and actions focused on access to justice.

KCBA Pro Bono Services provides civil legal aid to King County residents through direct representation, assistance for pro se litigants, brief services, and advice and counsel. In 2014, KCBA Pro Bono Services provided help with 10,297 legal matters, utilizing 1,300 volunteers who provided 37,568 volunteer hours, estimated at $7,087,388 worth of legal services. Additionally, Pro Bono Services provides mentorship for attorneys willing to take cases in specific areas as well as training for all volunteer attorneys.

The Pro Bono Services Committee is comprised of current Pro Bono Services volunteers, Pro Bono Services staff members, and community members involved in providing quality pro bono services in King County.

This year, the Pro Bono Services Committee is focusing on creating and implementing a volunteer survey for all of Pro Bono Services, increasing recruitment efforts for volunteers in South King County, and working with the legal community and social service providers to respond to the 2014 Civil Legal Needs Study update commissioned by the Washington State Supreme Court.
