New Executive Director at KCBA

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

January 29, 2021
From:  John McKay, President, KCBA

I am delighted to announce that DUA ABUDIAB has been hired as the Executive Director of the King County Bar Association.   Dua’s start date is March 1, 2021.

Dua graduated from Texas A&M in 2008 and then attended South Texas College of Law graduating in 2011.  After working as a public defender in Colorado for a year, Dua has spent the past seven years as an attorney for the King County Department of Public Defense.

She is a graduate of the Washington Leadership Institute and has served in several leadership roles including the Middle Eastern Legal Association of Washington and Washington Women Lawyers. She currently serves on the Washington State Supreme Court Gender and Justice Commission as well as the Washington State Racial Justice Consortium.

Dua is committed to bringing a race equity lens to the work of the KCBA, with the goal of KCBA being a relevant bar association for all attorneys in our community.   I am impressed with Ms. Abudiab’s strong commitment to serving the community and to race equity.  Both are critical in the role of the KCBA Executive Director.  Ms. Abudiab is highly regarded throughout the legal community, and I and the KCBA Board are excited to see where she can take KCBA.

Ms. Abudiab is described by references as someone who is committed to giving back to her community; calm with good organizational and public speaking skills; and someone who works well with a variety of people.  She is resilient; poised; flexible and able to keep her focus on the big picture.

Thank you to the Search Committee of co-chairs Kaustuv Das and ada shen-jaffe; Neal Black; Kelly Noonan; David Perez; Sharon Sakamoto and Sidney Tribe for all their time and effort in finding KCBA’s new Executive Director.  Thank you also to the Advisory Committee, made up of staff, community partners, court representatives and law school representatives for the insight they provided as well.

I am excited about Dua’s vision for moving KCBA forward on a variety of fronts and have no doubt you will all be impressed with her.  I hope you will all join me in welcoming her to KCBA.
