This session will focus on the impact of the 2021 social and political landscape on extremist activity and the significant challenges ahead. The program will address legal aspects involved in combatting extremist ideology, conspiracy theories, and disinformation efforts as vehicles to spread hate, including information about the COE staff’s assistance to law enforcement and work as expert witnesses in criminal trials.

COVID-19 Impacts on LGBTQ+ Community: Practical Steps for Inclusive Representation

COVID-19 has significantly impacted access to justice, especially in communities already experiencing legal barriers. This conversation will provide information about how COVID-19 has impacted LGBTQ+ communities, with a particular focus on Black, Indigenous, and other people of color and rural communities, and will offer an overview of common legal issues arising in LGBTQ+ communities because of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as updates to legislation protecting marginalized and poor people in Washington. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share best practices and litigation strategies for serving LGBTQ+ clients.
