Twenty-nine years ago, Congress passed the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) of 1990. The OFPA authorized the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service to create a National Organic Program.
Fast forward almost three decades, and total, annual U.S. organic product sales have reached nearly $50 billion. And it doesn’t appear that the market for organic products has reached its apex, as the average annual growth this decade for U.S. organic food sales has been about 10 percent.
