This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Washington Uniform Collaborative Law Act (UCLA). In 2013, Washington became the seventh state to enact the UCLA; today, the UCLA is enshrined as part of the law in 17 states and the District of Columbia.
Even lawyers who do not practice collaborative law should at least familiarize themselves with the statutory definition and parameters of collaborative law so as not to inadvertently misinform clients when using the term “collaborative” in the context of dispute resolution.
