As any obligor parent in a family law matter quickly discovers, the ordered monthly child support amount is not limited to the set transfer payment. In fact, it is common for the monthly daycare, educational, extracurricular and uninsured medical cost obligations to exceed the actual child support transfer payment itself.
The allocation as to which parent makes the decisions in these areas is outlined in the parties’ parenting plan and there is some financial protection for the obligor parent when joint decision making is required.
