August means it’s time for the Seafair hydroplane races. Everyone who has spent a summer in Seattle probably knows about the races on Lake Washington, but did you know there used to be hydroplane races on Green Lake?

A quick visit to historylink.org reveals that the hydroplane races started on Green Lake in 1929 and ended in 1984 after a snow leopard cub died at the Woodland Park Zoo, which was attributed to its mother paying more attention to the noise than to her cubs.
