This month’s Pro Bono Spotlight highlights the pro bono work of Nilda Brooklyn, an attorney who has volunteered for KCBA’s Kinship Care Solutions Project for several years. Through the Project, Nilda has represented extended family members (kinship caregivers) in nonparent custody and minor guardianship cases so they have the legal authority to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of children in their care. These cases have involved immigrant children who have experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment by their parents and have fled violence in their home countries seeking safety in the U.S. Below, Nilda shares her thoughts about her...
