Last year, the King County Bar Association (KCBA) teamed up with the city of Seattle’s Office of Immigrant and Refugees Affairs (OIRA), and the Washington Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILAWA) to develop and implement a new model for legal clinics.
Developed during the global pandemic, it paid immigration lawyers a stipend to provide legal assistance to more than 200 immigrants virtually — a unique setup that had not been used anywhere else.
