Counsel for the President assured the United States Senate on Saturday, January 25, that there was no direct evidence anywhere establishing that the President withheld aid to Ukraine in return for a personal favor that would help his prospects for reelection. The favor sought was a public announcement by the President of Ukraine that he had initiated a corruption investigation targeting Joe Biden, the leading contender to challenge President Trump in the 2020 election.
