Solidarity with Pakistan’s Jurists

By Devin T. Theriot-Orr

Donate to the Rule of Law Project, which is serving as a clearinghouse for information regarding the emergency and will be researching and writing reports regarding the impacts of Musharraf’s second PCO. Our six-month budget is only $20,000 USD, half of which is already secured through a local law school, but we need additional financial support to make the project happen. For more information about donating, please write rlp@risup.net.

Write the State Department and your elected representatives and urge them to demand a restoration of the judiciary, in addition to a rollback of martial law and free elections.

Ask your friends to write their representatives. Talk about the situation. Organize a teach-in.

Organize solidarity rallies with your local bar associations — these are covered in the local papers here and have a significant impact on people’s morale here. Please send pictures and descriptions of the rally to rlp@riseup.net.

Attend a delegation to Pakistan. The Rule of Law Project is organizing international delegations to Pakistan over the next several months. The first was to arrive in late December. The delegations will meet with local lawyers to build an international coalition seeking restoration of the rule of law in Pakistan. The delegation also will be directly involved in researching and writing a report on the martial law situation. For more information, please write pakdelegation@riseup.net.
