King County Bar Association’s Community Legal Services recognizes Robin Warren and Lisa Wiese as December’s Volunteers of the Month.
Warren and Wiese represented a father in a contested petition to establish a parenting plan through the Family Law Mentor Program. When the case was accepted into the program, there was an open dependency case and the court had placed the 4-year-old boy with his father after the mother’s boyfriend had allegedly assaulted the child. Warren went to court and got a temporary order placing the child with his father.
When Warren went on personal leave, Wiese took over the case. She spent many hours negotiating with the opposing attorney and trying to work out a settlement. Finally, Warren and Wiese were able to settle the case. The boy is living with his father and having appropriate visitation with his mother.
According to Warren, “Working on [this case] showed me how important attorney volunteers are to those who cannot afford representation. I appreciated the opportunity the KCBA gave me to make a difference in my client’s life and give something back to the community. It inspired me to seek appointment to the WSBA’s Pro Bono and Legal Aid Committee.”
“Participating in the KCBA Family Law Program provides private sector attorneys the opportunity to volunteer their skills and resources for the greater public good,” Wiese said. “The program also offers the added personal rewards of trying your hand at a new area of law and witnessing the genuine gratitude of the clients whom you helped.”
Both Warren and Wiese were working for Williams Kastner during the case. Warren is not currently working at the firm; she is preparing to begin an LLM degree program in January at the University of Washington School of Law. Wiese has a practice emphasizing products liability, environmental torts, healthcare malpractice and personal liability defense.
KCBA congratulates Robin Warren and Lisa Wiese for being selected as the December Volunteers of the Month and thanks them for their continued dedication to serve clients in need who cannot afford legal representation. Special appreciation also goes to the pro bono committee at Williams Kastner for all the resources spent on this case.
