Running a simple search on the word “fear” on our online catalog produces a varied result that is revealing about the type of collection we try to maintain for our patrons. The search pulls up three DVDs, two CLEs and one legal treatise.
The DVDs are “Cape Fear,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and “Primal Fear.” Given the recent issues in the subprime lending market, the CLE materials “Foreclosures Without Fear” are a timely resource.
Finally, the legal treatise, Firing Without Fear: A Legal Guide for Conscientious Employers, is a broad-based summary of the topic for attorneys and non-attorneys alike. A reviewer on Amazon.com comments on Chapter 4 in this way:
Chapter 4 describes Employment at Will and the various valid reasons for firing and the exceptions to the Employment at Will. I found this chapter of 34 pages the most eye opening as I had not realized the full implications of this topic. If you only have an hour to spend on the book, read this chapter. It is the most practical treatment of this subject I have seen in other books for non-lawyers like myself. This gave me the required knowledge and confidence I need before approaching a professional lawyer for help if necessary.
A treatise like this is good for the client or employer, who may be a non-attorney seeking basic information on this legal topic. Of course, we have more specific Washington employment law treatises that will give a more comprehensive treatment of the subject.
You can see by these results that we can cater to the lighter research needs such as the movie DVDs, the more specific research in the CLE materials, and the more in-depth legal treatise for comprehensive coverage. You have nothing to fear in the amount of help you will have in retrieving any of these resources or finding others when you contact us at KCLL, whether by phone or in person.
Ask us about the Legal Eagle DVD collection and how to subscribe to this service. It is only $20 annually if you are already a subscriber to KCLL. Also, we are now entering our prorated period of the year for membership through January 31, so membership only costs $20 during this time.
Take a little time to check out our catalog online at www.kcll.org and plug in terms other than “fear” to see what you might find.
